EAR Plug

If listening to what is going on inside the mill is a priority, the EAR Plug is the device to achieve just that.

This device affixes to the Internal Bung (iBUNG) strategically positioned inside the mill behind a wear liner in key locations. It provides the necessary acoustic feedback of the internal grinding process as it happens in real time. The data is collected, stored, and analyzed using the proprietary monitoring software. This software has been developed to identify specific pitches and tones that may signal concern, then notifying the operators of potential issues in the grinding process.

Some examples of warnings may be metal on metal, such as too high a grind media or large foreign metal material introduced into the mill, or a broken dislodged liner fragment tumbling in the mill. Perhaps the ore charge feed rate is too high with too low grind media ratio. Maybe the mill rotation speed needs to be adjusted due to ore feed and grind media to improve the shoulder and toe.

All of these scenarios, and more, can be identified, captured, analyzed and optimized through the use of the EAR Plug.
